002. The Trial

Trial & Error

Soo today me and one other person in my group (Jay) decided to get one of the camera cubes from Ted – we couldn’t figure out how to use it til the very end so there’s not much stuff recorded, but now we know how to actually use the device

For those who are wondering, we used a Polaroid Camera Cube, which looks like:

(We used the blue one if you really wanted to know)

They’re really small cameras used to take pictures or record videos. Think GoPro

Here’s how it works: Hold the button down for three seconds and the Cube turns on. Push it once and you’ll snap a still pic, or press it twice and you’ll start to record video and sound. One more touch will stop recording, and another three-second hold will turn it off again.

Seems simple, but only when you get the hang of it.

And we just went around mostly asking people to describe their weekend using only emoji’s!

It was a lot of fun! But being that we didn’t actually manage to record anything as we did not know how to use the Camera Cube, limited footage is available.

Our original plan was to use printed images of the emoji’s so that it would be easier to view and be more interactive with people while interviewing them. At the time we didn’t have the printed copies with us, and the uni printers were malfunctioning, so we just used our phones for the task. It became difficult to video what the person was doing, and just watching a video of someone using a phone wouldn’t be very entertaining for people watching. So we need to review and make printed version of emoji’s.

Also thought it would be better to have the people explain what the emoji’s mean or something otherwise it could get lost in translation, not understanding their weekend sometimes.

Stay tuned for the next update of what happens
