1. Julie Bishop’s Emoji Interview:

This articles detailing an enlightening interview with Australia’s foreign affairs minister Julie Bishop using only emoji’s to answer the questions. The quick fire questions, rapid response and various emoji’s are used to describe what Bishop’s answers. This leaves a lot of unanswered speculation in the images, as a picture paints a thousand words, it can be difficult to surmise what is being said in certain questions. This reflects to the digital artefact of using this style of interview – little communication and using only emoji’s as a response being the main aspect of the artefact.

This source is relevant to my topic and reflects with Emoji Interview’s intake of Interpretive Interviews: in which the subject of the interview needs to interpret some facts which are already known, as in they must decode what is being shown.

6. YungJake: Emoji artwork

Contemporary artist Yung Jake uses emoji’s to create portraits of famous celebrities. He uses the ‘Internet as a pallet,’ creating things that we’ve never seen before, with the intention to ‘show people you don’t have to do things in a normal way.’ Jake’s decision in making art out of youth culture directly effects my digital artefact through the developing of a new form of interviewing people through emoji’s, removing less verbal contact with people whilst interviewing them, creating a convergence of technology through a blend of emoji’s and the traditional forms of interviews.

Yung Jake’s Instagram is here and his intentionally glitched tumblr is available here

Essentially, The Rashomon Effect means different interpretations of the same thing. It outlines how ‘different individuals from different backgrounds with different sets of experiences and expectations.’ This relates back to emoji’s being interpreted differently from a single or multiple set of emoji’s.
