Artisan Glitch: The Art of Databending

The meaning of craft has significantly changed in a time of digitalisation. With the concept of databending, in which often involves the unpredictable alterations of a media’s target’s behavior. Databending achieves this alteration by manipulating the information within a media file of a certain format, using software designed to edit files of a different format; distortions in the medium typically occur as a result.

Think only of Yung Jake, who “satirizes viral culture.” through his glitched and changed artforms. Yung Jake wasn’t trying to make a statement about the Internet with E.m-bed.de/d, or his emoji artwork, he was just messing about with the Internet. He uses the internet as a pallet, a medium in platforms in which he creates art that we’ve never seen before.

Till next time,

Jess

Love this article! I really enjoyed your reference to the simpsons! But in addition to that… I had a look at your hyperlink to the glitch generator website and found myself filtering through all my pictures only to find I couldn’t decide on doing just one, but my whole photo library! Thanks for the fun!
